Using the centuries-old method of pure vegetable tanning and hand finishing, the only tannery that still produces authentic shell cordovan is truly practising a rare art. The tanning process takes as long as six months to complete and produces a soft, supple yet very durable leather. Dovetail heels, full glove leather lining, flexible insoles in pure vegetable tanned leather. Unsurpassed for breathable comfort and extended wear, it takes on the contours of your foot shape over time, giving a truly customised quality to the fit. Beneath the insole is a layer of cork, providing additional resilience and insulation. Each Alden New England shoe has a precisely shaped, hardened steel shank with three ribs for added strength. Truly the backbone of a fine shoe or boot, the shank provides the right support and shape to give all-day comfort.
